Improving patients' quality of life with innovations

Bayer Schering Pharma invests large sums in research and development to improve patients' quality of life and prolong their lives. The focus is on therapeutic areas with a high medical need, for example cancer therapy, where more innovations are needed despite considerable progress. In this context, Bayer Schering Pharma focuses on its core competencies and builds on many years of research experience.

Focus on therapy areas with a high medical need

In its internal research for active ingredients, Bayer Schering Pharma concentrates on four core areas: Oncology, Cardiology, Women´s Healthcare, and Diagnostic Imaging. With new approaches in cancer therapy, cardiovascular diseases, gynecological therapies, and molecular imaging, we aim to become the innovation leader in these areas.

Strong pipeline in all business areas

While the early search for active ingredients is concentrated on four core areas, the clinical development of new products and the further development of marketed products is driven across all business areas. In addition to in-licensing, product accompanying development plays a significant role: it aims at identifying an active ingredient's additional potential in other indication areas, thus extending its range of application. This includes improving existing formulations and administration forms.
